Autonomous vehicles have slowly and steadily become one of the UAE’s top priorities with Dubai committing to making 25% of all transportation trips autonomous by 2030. Working towards the same, Space42 and e& UAE signed an MoU to collectively develop and deploy vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies for the United Arab Emirates.

The agreement includes merging Space42’s Sovereign Mobility Cloud and autonomous vehicle solutions with e& UAE’s 5.5G, edge computing, and secure communication technologies.

“This partnership brings together innovation on the ground and in the cloud. By combining Space42’s autonomous systems with e& UAE’s advanced networks, we can turn vehicles into more intelligent, connected, and embodied agents that move safely through our cities,” said Hasan Al Hosani, CEO-Smart Solutions,  Space42.

Space42 has clocked over 600,000 kilometres of autonomous driving and completed 20,000 passenger trips through TXAI, its flagship robotaxi service since 2021.

The two will co-develop pilot projects, regulatory frameworks, and business models to pave the way for large-scale connected and autonomous mobility nationwide.

Masood M Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& UAE, shared, “Our goal is to help regulators and city operators stand up safe, certifiable pilots that improve road safety and keep traffic moving, while laying a clear path from today’s 5.5G to tomorrow’s 6G era.”

    What and How: V2X Technology

The V2X technology will enable vehicles to communicate with other automobiles, road infrastructure, and pedestrians. This will enhance safety and efficiency through real-time situational awareness and traffic analytics.

Through over-the-air updates, autonomous vehicles will be able to autonomously refine their maps and instantly share data with surrounding vehicles using edge nodes.

Space42 and e& will collaborate in three main areas-

    1. Connected infrastructure and networks: Integrating terrestrial, non-terrestrial, edge computing, and roadside units via Space42’s cloud for broad V2X communication.
    2. Autonomous and connected mobility pilots: Conducting real-world tests of AV shuttles, robotaxis, and logistics fleets in Abu Dhabi to improve safety and traffic efficiency.
    3. Ecosystem and commercial models: Working with government partners (ITC, DMT, Police) to create national standards and certification necessary for commercial deployment.

The MoU aligns with the UAE’s National AI Strategy 2031, aiming to position the country as a global leader in AI, especially in next-generation mobility.

Space42 has also signed MoUs with xMap, FortyGuard, AIRMO, and AlphaGEO to integrate their AI technologies into its geospatial intelligence platform, GIQ.
