As a member of the Shura Council (Saudi Parliament), Latifa Al-Abdulkarim leads the drafting and review of regulations on data and emerging technologies and oversees various operations of government entities. She has also served as an artificial intelligence advisor to the Saudi Arabian Government and led the national strategic direction of AI and AI governance.
With over 17 years of experience in applied research, she was appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, as a member of the UN High-Level Advisory Body on AI, working on the international governance of artificial intelligence. Apart from her parliamentary duties, she serves as the Assistant Professor of Computer Science at King Saud University and is a visiting researcher at the University of Liverpool.
She holds a PGD degree in computer software engineering, an MSc, and a PhD in computer science from the University of Liverpool.
