Sanjay Chawla is the Chief Scientist of Qatar Computing Research Institute, Hamad Bin Khalifa University. He has contributed extensively to several strategic AI initiatives in HBKU and Qatar, including Fanar, the Arabic-centric multimodal Generative AI platform; the UK-Qatar AI Commission; the National AI Strategy of Qatar; a research partnership with Boeing Research and Technology; and a collaboration with MIT on AI-driven geospatial map generation. His current research interests include robustness of machine learning algorithms and out-of-distribution detection. He has been teaching a Reinforcement Learning graduate-level course at HBKU for the last five years. Before joining QCRI, he was a Pattern and Data Mining Professor at the University of Sydney.
