In recent years, artificial intelligence has gained widespread recognition, becoming one of the fastest advancing technologies. While currently operating within a narrow structure, Tesla chief Elon Musk predicts that AI will become smarter than humans by the end of 2026.
”I don’t know what’s going to happen in 10 years, but the rate at which AI is progressing, I think we might have AI that is smarter than any human by the end of this year,” Musk said during the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
Additionally, he expects AI to surpass the combined human intelligence within the next five years.
“I would say no later than next year, probably by 2030 or 2031, call it 5 years from now, AI will be smarter than all of humanity collectively.”
Like Jensen Huang, Musk is optimistic about AI and robotics.
“If things go well, we expect to sell humanoid robots to the public by the end of next year,” Musk said.
“We will actually make so many robots and AI that they will actually saturate human needs,” he said. “My prediction is that there will be more robots than people.”
Believing robots would transform society and help humanity by reducing human work, he said that a time will come when robots will see robots manufacturing more robots.
Musk foresees a future where “everyone on Earth” will seek an autonomous machine to take care of older parents or children. “Who wouldn’t want a robot to, assuming it’s very safe, watch over your kids, take care of your pets?” Musk questioned.
Through Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink, Musk says their goal is to “maximise the probability that civilization has a great future.”
The global AI robots market is projected to grow from USD 6.11 billion in 2025 to USD 33.39 billion by 2030, according to Markets and Markets, a market research firm.
