The Delhi government has launched Delhi AI Grind, a new program to teach artificial intelligence fundamentals and applied AI skills to students in classes VI–IX and class XI. 

The initiative is part of the government’s broader New Era of Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Vision (NEEEV) effort to promote digital literacy and innovation across the capital’s schools. 

Implementation will run between December and March across all education districts. 

Schools were required to register and nominate five “campus ambassadors” by Monday. Training begins with school-level “mini-grind” sessions from December 15, before progressing to internal, district and state-level evaluations. 

Under the program, students will work on AI-powered projects addressing real-life urban issues such as mobility, logistics, sustainability, public safety, environment, health and civic services. 

Additional Director of Education K.S. Upadhyay, who is also the nodal officer for the roll out of the initiative, will oversee the program, government officials said.

Addressing the launch of Delhi AI Grind, billed as India’s first city-centric AI innovation engine, on Sunday, 7 December, astronaut and Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla said, “AI is now embedded across nearly every aspect of our lives. It is a tool to get things done, and we must focus on using it well to reach our goal of Viksit Bharat 2047. If the younger generation takes responsibility, we can achieve it well before that target.
