Two pilot programs conducted by Yango Group, in partnership with ROOTS and Expo City Dubai, have resulted in autonomous delivery robots that can successfully travel over 1,300 kilometers without any human intervention.
The tech conglomerate announced the results of the pilots at the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport, hosted by the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA).
“Autonomous delivery is not only practical and predictable — it’s partner-ready in Dubai and beyond. We’ve demonstrated performance levels that can scale across neighbourhoods and cities throughout the UAE,” said Islam Abdul Karim, regional head, Yango Group Middle East.
Results include three robots delivering meals from cafés and restaurants at Expo City Dubai, which covered over 800 km and achieved an average delivery time of 7 minutes end-to-end; and two robots that delivered groceries in Sobha Hartland, autonomously navigating more than 500 km in an average time of 14 minutes.
The results demonstrate that autonomous delivery can be a viable option in delivery targets in campus-style zones and mapped residential communities, the company said. Furthermore, it aligns with Dubai’s sustainability and AI-driven future goals by being fully electric, contributing to reducing noise pollution and emissions.
“Our recent recognition with the Dubai AI Seal affirms our role as a trusted provider of AI solutions, and we are confident that this will drive new partnerships across the innovative solutions within Yango Group’s ecosystem. We are deeply aligned with Dubai’s ambition to become a global leader in AI and build a smarter, more sustainable future,” Karim added.
Autonomous delivery serves as a core component of the Yango Group’s comprehensive AI-driven ecosystem.
The group is looking to collaborate with existing and new partners in Dubai to accelerate its autonomous delivery service ambition and will align fleet size and service zones as per demand and infrastructure readiness.
The Middle East mobile robotics market size was valued at $115.3 million in 2022, and is projected to reach $1,477.0 million by 2032, as per data from Allied Market Research.
