Following SpaceX’s hosting of analysts at its Colossus supercomputer in Tennessee, the publicly listed company has issued a warning that numerous investigations into xAI’s development and distribution of sexually abusive imagery could result in the parent corporation losing access to specific markets.

In a prospectus reviewed by Reuters, under the risk factors section, SpaceX noted that a number of agencies worldwide were “actively investigating and making inquiries relating to social media or the use of AI” regarding advertising, consumer protection, and the distribution of harmful content, among other matters.

Notably, Elon Musk’s company is gearing up for a $1.75 trillion IPO expected this summer.

Although U.S. securities law mandates that companies disclose risk factors to warn investors of potential pitfalls—and to shield themselves from future legal liability—these disclosures do not imply that every listed outcome is likely to occur.

The S-1 document highlighted a key challenge SpaceX is facing. The document stated that there were allegations “that our AI products were used to create nonconsensual explicit images or content depicting children in sexualized contexts.” This could trigger lawsuits, liability, and government measures, the filing cautioned.

xAI’s Grok model came under scrutiny over misuse to generate images showing women, and sometimes minors, in revealing clothing, or edited into degrading or gruesome poses.

This led to widespread criticism, with one research group claiming a figure of 3 million sexualized images being generated.

Amid this, U.S. lawmakers demanded that Alphabet, the owner of Google, and Apple remove Grok and X from their app stores.

However, xAI’s curb on Grok has slowed down and not stopped the generation of abusive material.
