OpenAI, Snowflake in $200 Million Deal to Embed AI in Enterprise Data

The multi-year partnership integrates OpenAI’s models directly into Snowflake’s governed data environment as enterprises shift from standalone AI tools to embedded, data-native workflows.

  • OpenAI and data cloud company Snowflake have signed a multi-year partnership valued at about $200 million to bring OpenAI’s models directly into Snowflake’s enterprise data environment, as businesses look to embed generative AI into day-to-day data workflows rather than deploy it as a standalone tool.

As part of the deal, Snowflake customers will be able to access OpenAI models, including GPT-5.2, through Snowflake Cortex AI and Snowflake Intelligence. The integration allows organisations to build AI applications and agents that work directly on enterprise data stored within Snowflake’s platform.

The move reflects a broader shift in enterprise AI adoption, where companies are increasingly focused on grounding generative AI systems in governed, internal datasets to support analytics, automation, and operational decision-making.

“By bringing OpenAI models to enterprise data, Snowflake enables organizations to build and deploy AI on top of their most valuable asset using the secure, governed platform they already trust,” said Sridhar Ramaswamy, CEO of Snowflake. He added that the integration allows customers to “build AI agents that are powerful, responsible, and trustworthy,” while maintaining security and compliance standards.

Through Snowflake Intelligence, users can query business data in natural language without writing code, while Snowflake Cortex AI Functions allow teams to call OpenAI models directly from SQL. This enables AI-based analysis across structured data, text, images, and audio within the same environment.

“Snowflake is a trusted platform that sits at the center of how enterprises manage and activate their most critical data,” said Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI. “This partnership brings our advanced models directly into that environment, making it easier to deploy AI agents and apps.”

The companies say the integration is being used across industries such as financial services, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, media, and the public sector, sectors where data governance and regulatory requirements often slow large-scale AI deployment.

Some customers have begun testing the combined setup. Canva said it is exploring how OpenAI models within Snowflake Cortex AI could support the expansion of its visual AI tools. WHOOP said it is using Snowflake Intelligence internally to analyse data and support decision-making, and plans to extend those capabilities using OpenAI’s models.

“Speed and precision in decision-making are critical for us as WHOOP continues to scale,” said Matt Luizzi, Senior Director of Business Analytics at WHOOP, adding that the tools provide “a secure and governed way” to analyse data across the organisation.

The deal also expands OpenAI’s enterprise footprint. Snowflake works with a large base of global organisations, including Accenture, Walmart, PayPal, Intuit, Target, Thermo Fisher, BNY, Morgan Stanley, and BBVA, giving OpenAI deeper access to established enterprise customers already using Snowflake as their data platform.

Looking ahead, OpenAI and Snowflake said their teams will work on additional features using OpenAI’s Apps SDK, AgentKit, and APIs to support shared enterprise workflows. Snowflake will also continue using ChatGPT Enterprise internally for employee collaboration and productivity.
