During the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) from June 8-12 in Cupertino, Apple Inc. announced that it is working with traditional AI competitors Google and Nvidia to develop its most advanced model yet. The three companies are collaborating on the Apple Foundation Model Cloud Pro.
While Apple and Google formally announced their partnership for Apple Intelligence in January, this marks the first time the company has publicly acknowledged that Apple Intelligence features will operate on Nvidia hardware.
Apple AI executive Amar Subramanya compares Cloud Pro to the capabilities of Google’s Gemini frontier models and says it will run on Nvidia GPUs in Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.
“We work with both Google and Nvidia to extend our private cloud compute infrastructure to Nvidia GPUs in Google’s cloud, while maintaining Apple’s unmatched privacy guarantees,” Subramanya said.
While the first generation of Apple Intelligence could run on devices with 8GB of RAM, the new model requires at least 12 GB.
At WWDC, Apple announced a suite of artificial intelligence reforms, including an overhauled version of Siri, as it bid farewell to its longtime chief, Tim Cook, who will be succeeded by John Ternus as the company enters the AI era.
The company unveiled a new version of Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence. Siri AI is said to be a more capable and conversational assistant with personal context understanding, broad world knowledge, and onscreen awareness.
Notably, Siri AI will work across other Apple products and apps, and will also have a dedicated app for users, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude.
“We’re excited to introduce Siri AI, a dramatically more capable and conversational assistant designed to help users find information and get things done throughout the day,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “With access to broad world knowledge for up-to-date answers on virtually any topic, along with onscreen awareness and personal context understanding, Siri AI can help users take action across apps more naturally than ever.”
Apple has also outlined changes to its trust and safety initiatives as part of its rollout of iOS 27, which includes expanding its “ask” feature for parents to control whom their children can speak with and automatically censoring any image sent to a child’s device.
The 2026 WWDC marks Tim Cook’s final appearance as CEO, a role he held for 15 years. “Your imagination and ingenuity have inspired me for the past 15 years, and I am deeply grateful to have been on this journey with you,” Cook said in his final address.
