As the National Cyber Security Coordinator of India serving under the National Security Council Secretariat, Lt Gen M.U. Nair is widely recognized for his strategic acumen in cyber warfare, signal intelligence, and defense technology. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, he has been decorated with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Sena Medal for his distinguished service.
Over his illustrious military career, Lt Gen Nair has held several key positions, including Additional Director General of Signal Intelligence, Chief of Staff of a Corps, Commanding Officer, and 28th Signal Officer-in-Chief at Army Headquarters.
As NCSC, Lt Gen Nair leads coordination among various central agencies on critical cybersecurity matters, including monitoring communication metadata to support law enforcement and spearheading the update of India’s cybersecurity policies with the National Cyber Security Reference Framework. His tenure emphasizes enhanced cyber intelligence sharing, threat awareness, and coordinated responses to cyberattacks.
