Professor Ajay Kumar Sood has been Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India since 2022. He also chairs the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council.
Sood is one of India’s most respected physicists, with research in quantum materials and soft matter. He has authored more than 450 scientific papers, holds multiple patents, and has played a role in shaping national science policy and international collaboration. He earlier served as Secretary-General of The World Academy of Sciences.
A Padma Shri awardee and Fellow of the Royal Society of London, Sood has also received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology and the G.D. Birla Award for Scientific Research. He continues to contribute to research and teaching at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
