As cities increasingly adopt digital infrastructure to provide essential services more effectively, law enforcement agencies are also investing in technology to enable residents to access support anytime, beyond traditional office hours. In Dubai, this strategy is exemplified by the ongoing growth of automated policing services.
Dubai Police said its network of 33 Smart Police Stations (SPS) now delivers 24/7 police services across the emirate without the need for on-site personnel, as part of the authority’s broader push to digitize public services.
The automated stations allow residents and visitors to access 32 services spanning four primary categories: criminal reports and complaints, traffic services and accidents, certificates and permits, and community participation and support.
The smart stations are also designed to support Dubai’s multicultural population by offering services in multiple languages, reinforcing Dubai Police’s focus on accessibility and user-friendly digital experiences.
“Whether through SPS, drive-thru, walk-in, or suburban police points, all facilities operate 24 hours a day in support of Dubai Police’s vision of a Safe City and a preferred global destination for living, work and tourism,” Dubai Police added.
According to the authority, the system allows customers to submit criminal reports via a live video link to investigating officers who can communicate in several languages, eliminating the need to visit a police station in person.
“Officers guide users through the process and send statements for electronic signing. Services also include inquiries, ‘Police Eye,’ and various community-focused services,” Dubai Police added.
Among the services available through the stations are filing criminal complaints, reporting bounced cheques and cybercrime, and requesting official documents such as criminal status certificates, loss certificates, and “to whom it may concern” certificates. Users can also obtain traffic clearance and traffic status certificates, request permits for road closures, sailing, or visiting the police museum, report obstructing vehicles, and access diplomatic services.
