Rajesh Kumar Singh is Defense Secretary of India. A 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Kerala cadre, he assumed the role in November 2024 after serving as Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
Over his career, Singh has worked across a wide range of ministries, including Petroleum and Natural Gas, Agriculture, and Urban Development. He has also served as head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying and as Finance Secretary of the state of Kerala.
Singh is regarded as a versatile administrator with more than three decades of service. His experience in both state and central government has given him insight into economic as well as security-related policy.
